Dr. Susan Love's Hormone Book
By Dr. Susan Love and Karen Lindsay
This book is definitely written from the perspective of a doctor who
deals extensively with breast disease. She begins by offering a definition
of menopause and then describes the medicalization of it. There is a discussion
about prevention of serious diseases such as cardio-vascular and osteoporosis
and the risks inherent with this decision as well as instruction on understanding
research.
She has a chapter on heart disease, breast cancer and endometrial cancer.
She offers information on alternatives to hormone replacement therapy
such as acupuncture and herbs. One of her closing chapters is a menu of
options and another is a pair of questionnaires that lead to decision
making about these options. The book concludes with several appendices
containing how-to-find information.
